Autumn Wildlife Experience
Package tour: 4 days/ 3 nights for 2-4 persons (+ 2 children up to 12 Years)
In September the nature surrounding Taiga Forest Lodge explodes in vibrant autumn colors. The air goes g crisp and the clear nights offer great chances of seeing the magical northern lights.
In this autumn experience, we explore the forest and let nature provide us with energy. You'll be staying at the comfortable Taiga Forest Lodge, having local food and finishing your days in a traditional wood-burning sauna. During these four days you´ll learn about the nature & history of this old logger's village. Some of the activities include wildlife spotting, looking for northern lights and a relaxing forest bath with a local guide. The perfect Autumn Wildlife Experience in Swedish Lapland.
Pick up in Kiruna or Gällivare and transfer to the lodge where a meal of local delicacies will be ready and waiting for you The sauna will be ready for you after dinner, making for a relaxing first evening, getting you in the right mindset for the days to come.
Breakfast at the lodge before heading out on visit to an Eco Park located about 20km from Taiga Forest Lodge. Here we'll hike up on the mountain Karhuvaara together with a local guide. On our way up we'll be walking through old pine forest to the top, where you'll get a fantastic view of the surrounding mires and mountains. We'll make a fire, pick some berries, and make lunch together, and with a bit of luck, spot some animals while doing so.
On the way back to the lodge we'll stop at a small creek to look for spawning trout and salmon. Hiding in small shelters so we don't disturb the fish we'll see if we can spot a fish or two dancing just under the surface.
Back at the lodge after an eventful day, you'll receive a basket with local and organic ingredients together with a recipe to help you prepare your own delicious dinner. After dinner the sauna will be waiting for you, and you'll get another chance to gaze at the sky and, hopefully, see some northern lights!
The day starts with breakfast at the lodge. after which your guide, and licensed health coach, Katarina Larsson, will take you on a soothing forest bath. After an introduction about "Forest bathing" and a cup of tea with seasonal ingredients from the forest you will be guided by Katarina during a walk with mindful exercises. On this walk you'll work on being in the moment and letting stress go. Together we'll have an outdoor lunch to finish off our relaxing experience.
The afternoon is free, allowing you to take a bike tour into the nearby village or just reading a book in front of the fire. Take the time to feel the historic environment rinse away stress and to let silence take place. Take a moment to feel your stress and worries fade as you listen to the crackle of the fire and enjoy the calm surroundings.
Later on in the afternoon, we'll have a barbecue at the lodge before heading out on a minibus tour for some wildlife spotting. First, we'll make a stop at the nearby reindeer paddock to see if the reindeer want to have a little meet and greet. Then we'll continue driving along a small gravel road , where we'll be on the look-out for both moose and the beautiful capercaillie.
We will of course keep our eyes open for northern lights, should they appear!
Breakfast at the lodge before your transfer back to Kiruna or Gällivare. There is of course still time for a final short walk in the forest or just enjoying a moment out in the garden before departure. During the transfer, we'll have a short break for some tea or coffee at one of the roaring rivers along the road.
